Oldcastle Precast® Introduces Eco-friendly Onsite Wastewater
System at WEFTEC.08
CHICAGO – (October 19, 2008) – Oldcastle Precast®, Inc., will showcase its suite of environmental products for water, wastewater, stormwater and pollution control at WEFTEC.08, the Water Quality Event in Chicago. The company will present its new environmentally sensitive Onsite Wastewater System for residential cluster and commercial applications.
Algae-based “Eco-Treatment” Cuts Energy Usage and Maintenance
The new treatment system uses exclusive Algaewheel® technology to manage wastewater in a sustainable manner. The patented Algaewheel methodology utilizes a unique combination of bacteria and algae to provide traditional biological and expanded treatment that effectively “eco-treats” the wastewater. The expanded ecological treatment results in substantially cleaner discharge to a drainage field that will last indefinitely.
The system utilizes solar energy through photosynthesis, resulting in significantly lower energy usage. As an added benefit, the Algaewheel technology produces oxygen as a byproduct and consumes carbon dioxide, thus reducing greenhouse gases. The Oldcastle Precast® system can be used to qualify for LEED credits on applicable projects.
According to the company, the Onsite Wastewater System is designed to be virtually maintenance free. The Algaewheel is self-cleaning, and the system is constructed from non-corrosive materials with an extensive life expectancy.
