Cincinnati Nature Center to Install Oldcastle Precast AlgaePac™ Wastewater Treatment System – A Unique and Green Solution
February 2011 Milford, OH –- Oldcastle Precast announced that it has signed an agreement with Cincinnati Nature Center to install an AlgaePac Packaged Wastewater Treatment System at the Rowe Woods location in Milford, OH.
The AlgaePac system is the first of its kind to be installed in Ohio and is a key component in the Nature Center’s expansion plans over the next few years, which include the opening of the Marge and Charles Schott Nature Playscape and the addition of a preschool. According to Mark Bauer, Water/Wastewater Systems Specialist for Oldcastle Precast, “several key factors influencing CNC’s decision to move forward with AlgaePac are the tremendous green attributes of the system, with low-energy and reduced carbon footprint leading the way.”
Oldcastle Precast’s AlgaePac system features patented Algaewheel technology which provides a diverse ecological environment for tertiary wastewater treatment by utilizing a symbiotic relationship between algae and bacteria. Algae grow in the system by converting nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorous), sunlight, and carbon dioxide to algae and oxygen. The oxygen is used by bacteria in the system to digest solids, and to produce more carbon dioxide for use by the algae.
Oldcastle Precast’s Hartford City, Indiana plant will provide the system, and Oldcastle Precast Services, Indianapolis, will provide turn-key installation of the AlgaePac system, as well as a packaged lift station and force main collection system.
The manufacture and construction of the wastewater treatment plant is anticipated to be completed by early spring of 2011. The engineer for this project is Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., Cincinnati, OH.
